An ancient site dating back more than 6,000 years hides SECRET messages only visible at night. ‘During the fieldwork, it became evident that rock art was much more extensive than previously thought …,’ said the experts.
Monuments around the world have proven to be far more mysterious than we have imagined.
The discovery suggests that thousands of years ago, someone left messages on the rock, designed specifically to be only visible in the dark.
The discovery suggests that thousands of years ago, someone left messages on the rock, designed specifically to be only visible in the dark. At the ancient archaeological site located at Hendraburnick Down, near Davidstow, archaeologists led by Dr. Andy Jones of the Archeological Unit of Cornwall discovered about 105 engravings on an ax-shaped stone called ‘Quoit’. The site appears to have become the focus for quartz blocking as well as for the deposition of mostly fragmented artifacts. Two samples were submitted for radiocarbon dating that produced the Late Neolithic and Ancient Bronze Age determinations. ‘ During fieldwork, it became apparent that rock art was much more extensive than had been thought, and that it was most evident when viewed under the sunlight of the southeast or by the light of the moon. It is suggested that crushed vein quartz may have been used during nocturnal rituals. ‘
‘ The photogrammetric recording revealed that the site was the most decorated stone in southern Britain and suggests that rather than being pre-planned, art grew over time, ‘they wrote in a study.
